The journey to Rum Cottage is part of the holiday; the route from Fort William to Mallaig takes you along the beautiful  “Road to the Isles”  whether you travel by road or train.  The train crosses the Glenfinnan Viaduct, well known from the Harry Potter films.

The colours are magnificent, whatever the time of year; from the fresh greens of springtime with snow still on the tops, to the rich summer colours, then the blues, golds and russets of autumn are stunning, setting off the reds of the rowans, followed by the dramatic winter colours of frost and snow on the hills reflected in the lochs that lie alongside the road and railway line.
